The jumpthrow bind doesn't work on Valve servers. Since the August 19, 2024 update, CS2 ignores any bind that combines more than one movement or attack action, and Valve names jumpthrow binds as one of them. Valve made jumpthrows reliable by hand instead: hold the throw button, press jump, release just after.
How to jumpthrow in CS2
- Pull the pin. Hold Mouse1 for a full throw, Mouse2 for a short lob, or both for a medium throw. Use whichever the lineup calls for.
- Line up your aim on the lineup's reference point.
- Press jump, and release the throw button just after.
- Listen for the grunt. Since March 2023, CS2 plays a short grunt only when a grenade is jump-thrown correctly. Since August 2024, nearby players hear it too. No grunt means your timing was off.
CS2 records the exact moment you release (Valve calls this subtick), so the throw doesn't depend on which server tick you hit the way it did in CS:GO. Valve's May 18, 2026 update improved jumpthrow consistency again.
A legal helper: jump on the mouse wheel
A bind that does one action is still allowed. Many players put jump on the scroll wheel, which makes the timing easier to repeat:
bind "mwheeldown" "+jump"
Practice it with the preview camera
On a local server, sv_grenade_trajectory_prac_pipreview 1 shows a small camera at the landing spot while you hold a grenade. Since the November 13, 2024 update, holding jump switches that preview to the jumpthrow result, so you can see where it lands before you let go.
Pair it with sv_rethrow_last_grenade to repeat a throw without walking back. The full setup is in CS2 practice commands.
Re-enable the bind for offline practice
The restriction can be switched off with cl_allow_multi_input_binds 1. That setting needs sv_cheats 1, so it only works on a server you control, such as a local Practice game. It can't be used in matchmaking or Premier.
sv_cheats 1 cl_allow_multi_input_binds 1 alias "+jumpthrow" "+jump;-attack" alias "-jumpthrow" "-jump" bind "alt" "+jumpthrow"
Hold Mouse1, then press Alt. For right-click lobs, change -attack to -attack2. Don't put this in your autoexec: on Valve servers the game ignores it, and you'll wonder why your lineups miss.
Don't try to get around the restriction with macros or keyboard tricks. Valve's August 2024 notes say players suspected of automating several actions from one input may be kicked from official matches.
What changed, and when
| Date | Change |
|---|---|
| Mar 22, 2023 | CS2 Limited Test launches. Valve on X: “In CS2 jump throws are possible and consistent without a bind, therefore there is no jump throw bind.” |
| Mar 30, 2023 | “Added dedicated player-only sound when a grenade is correctly jump-thrown.” |
| Jun 6, 2023 | “Multi-binds are back, except for jump-throw binds (which are now a skillful part of CS).” |
| Oct 17, 2023 | “Command aliases now leverage subtick accuracy.” HLTV reported players quickly found alias workarounds. |
| Aug 19, 2024 | Binds with more than one movement or attack command are “ignored by default”, re-enabled only with the cheat-protected cl_allow_multi_input_binds 1. Valve's post: jump-throws are now “reliable without any special scripting or binds”. The grunt becomes audible to nearby players. |
| Nov 13, 2024 | “The grenade preview camera now shows the result of a jump throw while the jump button is held.” |
| May 18, 2026 | “Improved consistency of grenade jump throws and the accuracy of the jump throw preview camera.” |
Jumpthrow not working?
- An old bind in your config. If your autoexec or config still has a
+jumpthrowalias, CS2 ignores it on Valve servers. Remove it and throw by hand. - No grunt. You released too early or too late. Practice with the preview camera until you hear it every time.
- The lineup was made before a patch. Valve's April 1, 2026 notes warned that “grenade lineups on sloped surfaces may have changed”, and map updates move things too. Test old lineups before relying on them.
- Wrong throw strength. A jumpthrow with Mouse2 or both buttons lands somewhere else entirely. Check what the lineup expects.
FAQ
Is the jumpthrow bind bannable?
On Valve servers the bind simply doesn't do anything, since CS2 ignores it. Using macros or hardware tricks to automate several inputs can get you kicked, according to Valve's August 2024 notes.
Can I use a jumpthrow bind on FACEIT?
FACEIT runs its own servers and anti-cheat, and we couldn't find an official FACEIT statement on jumpthrow binds since Valve's August 2024 change. Check FACEIT's current rules before relying on one.
Do I need a jumpthrow bind for lineups?
No. Valve made jumpthrows consistent by hand, so lineups are meant to be thrown without one.
Is jump on the mouse wheel allowed?
Yes. bind "mwheeldown" "+jump" does a single action, so the multi-input restriction doesn't apply.
Every lineup. One tool.
nades.gg is a new CS2 grenade tool. Beta signups are open.
